SEMESTER MODULES

PIXNET classes are divided into two categories.

  1. Propaedeutic courses have to be followed during the first two semesters, as they grant you a basic training about photonic science and related subjects.
  2. Master’s thesis preparation courses can be enrolled only as second year classes, to complete your scientific background and prepare successfully your thesis.

 Mandatory and strongly recommended courses:

  • Internship at KDDI R&D Laboratories, NICT  (6 ECTS, strongly recommended)
  • Project (12 ECTS, mandatory)

System Oriented Subjects

  • Applied Mathematical Sciences (3  ECTS);
  • Energy Systems and Components (3 ECTS);
  • Nonlinear Analysis for Optical Fiber Communications (3 ECTS);
  • Introductions to Modern Applied Optics and Photonics (3 ECTS);
  • Lectures on various topic  (to be defined, 3 ECTS);

Physics oriented subjects

  • Surface Diagnostics (3 ECTS);
  • Advanced Semiconductor Devices (3 ECTS);

  • Molecular Optoelectronic Device (3 ECTS);
  • Electron Bean Nano Imaging (3 ECTS);

Each student is required to take at least 4 courses related to the elective courses.

Independent research work related to Master’s thesis (30 ECTS).

Option for both semesters: Elementary Japanese course (no ECTS).
