Education Plan

Each letter identifies a specific module.

The PIXNET study programme is divided into four semesters. 30 ECTS can be gained for each semester. The first three semesters are based on traditional courses, lab exercises and laboratory sessions, while the final semester is based on independent work related to the Master’s thesis. The PIXNET study programme is built upon “modules”, which correspond to a course semester or to thesis work, as offered by the four institutions. The definition of a consistent curriculum has led to a total of six mobility paths starting from one of the three European institutions of the Consortium.

An adequate number of students will be allotted to each mobility path. A detailed description of each path is available in the Mobility Path section.

The specific education plan is described below for each module provided by all project partners.

Modules and courses offered by Osaka University (OSAKA)

MODULE A (Master’s thesis preparation, 30 ECTS)

  • Quantum optics for Engineers (3 ECTS);
  • Introduction to Modern Applied Optics and Photonics (3 ECTS);
  • Semiconductor Laser Engineering (3 ECTS);
  • Microwave Photonics Systems (3 ECTS);
  • Photonic Network Engineering (3 ECTS).

Each course has an additional laboratory for an equivalent amount of credits (3 ECTS each). Each student is required to take at least three laboratories related to the previous modules.

  • Internship at KDDI R&D Laboratories, NICT (6 ECTS).

MODULE B (Master’s thesis, 30 ECTS)

  • Independent research work related to Master’s thesis (30 ECTS)

Option for both semesters: Elementary Japanese course (no ECTS).
